Websites for Book Lists:

Writing

Please submit 10 full pages of writing. Either type your entries or write in cursive. Your writing can consist of creative writing, journal writing, free writing, and even letters. Proofread each selection for spelling and punctuation. The goal of the assignment is to practice written expression skills over time, therefore it is not useful to complete all the writing in one week. We ask that these assignments are spread out over the summer, are dated, then signed by a parent after the student has checked for clarity, spelling and punctuation.

Math

Math will be assigned individually by the student’s current math teacher. Please refer to the additional math packet for specific assignments.

Read Aloud

The Internet is a good source for patents to find book lists to help in the selection of a read aloud book. Another good reference is The New York Times Parent’s Guide to the Best Books for Children, by Eden Ross Lipson. Local bookstores and libraries are also excellent resources for lists.

Additional Reading

Once you have finished the two summaries and have read your four assigned books, you may write the titles of any additional books you have read on the Additional Summer Reading list provided. Books that have been started any time after the last homework turn-in day count as summer reading. In order to maintain and improve your reading and comprehension skills, we strongly recommend that you read each day of the summer vacation.

Send us a postcard!

Please send us one post card from your travels. If you don’t go away, send one from home. We’re looking forward to hearing from you! OR, send a letter with details of you summer adventures and it will count as one page of your creative writing.
