Mr. Mitnick recently returned from an incredible trip to China! He was visiting a school in Beijing that is run by the mother of Hung Yu, a student who spent a month in the Upper Elementary program last January. Hung Yu’s mother runs a music school and sponsors a family music festival in Beijing. Mr. Mitnick went to work with their students and teachers for a week.
He shared some thoughts, and pictures, of his adventure:
“I spent three days at a resort by the beach running workshops and preparing students for a big final show and then I spent some time in Beijing working at the school. Fortunately, I had a few days to myself so I got to climb the Great Wall of China and visit the Forbidden City and The Temple Of Heaven. I also took a Yoga class in Chinese, ate tons of AMAZING food, walked for miles and simply enjoyed being completely emerged in a new culture. The children I worked with were wonderful as children always are… kids are kids! That is for sure. And music cuts across all boundaries which was especially evident for me the entire week.”
The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood.
