Lunch Programs

Healthful Choices

Food Philosophy

As a Montessori school, we recognize that caring for the whole child includes attention to quality nourishment, education on healthy food choices, and teaching manners and grace and courtesy at meal time. Research on pediatric nutrition indicates that better food leads to better attention span and classroom behavior, enhanced learning, and improved health. In addition, in an authentic Montessori school, children set the table themselves with real plate ware and glassware, learning practical life skills while receiving an aesthetic experience through the beauty and simplicity of a well-set table.  They learn to hold and manage the weight of pitchers, full plates, and vases for the table.  They enjoy cleaning the table with friends and washing their own dishes in a child-sized sink. All of these daily experiences build confidence, grace, and healthy bodies.

Lunch Programs

Parents are encouraged to ensure children bring healthy, well-balanced snacks and lunches to school. Purchasing lunch from our lunch vendors is also an option and these vendors are chosen for their adherence to our food and nutrition beliefs.  For your convenience, several lunch programs are offered.

Toddler Hot Lunches

Toddler children are ready to experience new flavors and tastes! Research has shown that exposure to a wider variety of foods at this age decreases picky-eaters, and also adds a nice convenience for parents. Wholesome hot lunches are prepared fresh daily right in the Toddler program. The menus are designed by the teachers and are always vegetarian, organic, allergen-free, made with locally-sourced ingredients, tasty, and varied.  It’s not only convenient, but also designed to provide the children with simple, well-balanced meals that offer a wide variety of different ingredients and flavors.

Weekly Pizza

Traditional pizza is delivered every Wednesday, and the delivery dates are listed on the school calendar. Students have the option of purchasing one or two slices. On these days, the pizza lunch will be served with water to drink. Parents are welcome to send in an additional snack or drink for their child if they prefer something in addition to pizza.

Smart Lunches

Princeton Montessori School partners with Smart Lunches, a school lunch delivery service, to provide healthy lunches that the children will enjoy in a reliable and convenient manner. Lunches are delivered every day. The menu includes a wide selection of the foods,  and fresh fruits and vegetables are included with every lunch. They offer a 100% nut-free menu, and other allergy-sensitive lunch options. Families work directly with Smart Lunches in setting up an account and placing orders. Lunches are delivered hot or cold daily, and brought directly to your child.
