In the Elementary years, students in Montessori experience dramatic stories and subsequent curricular work that guides them in making sense of their world. This begins with the story of how life came to be.
–
In Biology, the Lower Elementary students are studying evolution and the “Tree of Life” starting when life first appeared on earth, 3.5 billion years ago. As part of their study of the Paleozoic Sea they created fossils of Trilobites and Ammonites, complete with educational displays.
–
Trilobites are a well-known fossil group of extinct marine animals. The trilobites roamed the oceans for 0ver 270 million years and were among the most successful of all early animals. Their exoskeleton is easily fossilized resulting in rich fossil records. Ammonites are another extinct group of marine invertebrates. They are molluscs. Their name comes from the shells which resemble the horns of a ram.
