Science – Building Bocks and Experimentation
Middle School students completed their science unit “Building Blocks”. For the final assessment, the students had to complete at least two investigations:
- “What is it?” – identifying which of the four white substances had covalent or ionic bonds.
- “Conductivity” – comparing the conductivity of sugar and salt and relating it to the type of bonds those compounds make.
- “Measuring Matter” – observing a change of state, writing the chemical equation, and explaining it based on the Law of Conservation of Matter.
These investigations allowed the students to demonstrate their skills in the scientific method based on the learning covered over the last 6 weeks on elements, the periodic table, energy levels, and covalent and ionic bonding.
