On Thursday, March 13th, the 8th-grade girls had an incredible experience at the Young Women’s Conference in STEM hosted by Princeton Plasma Physic Laboratory (PPPL). The event took place at Alexander Hall Auditorium on the Princeton University Campus.
They participated in interactive experiments, met people from various STEM fields, and engaged in demonstrations and panel discussions.
The day started with a Woman in Engineering awards ceremony, followed by the keynote speaker, Professor Inès Montaño, Associate Professor of Applied Physics and Materials Science at Northern Arizona University. Professor Montaño described her own cutting-edge research and discussed her personal journey as a STEM professional.
The afternoon was spent attending an exhibition session for hands-on fun and discussions with various exhibits from STEM departments at the university and external companies and organizations, all geared towards allowing the students to explore the vast range of careers available in STEM.
A highlight of the day was an improvised visit to Audrey’s mom, Sabine Petry’s lab, where she gave the students an exclusive tour and shared insights into her groundbreaking research. It was an inspiring and eye-opening experience that encouraged our students to explore the endless possibilities in STEM.
