Lower Elementary Learns about Bacteria
In biology, children in Lower Elementary have been learning about the tree of life, starting from the beginning of life and working their way through each phylum. In the phylum of Prokaryotes, they learned that the simple cells from the Protists branch of life became more complex, with DNA that could reproduce itself. One such group of cells is known as bacteria. Following a lively conversation about all the bacteria around us, we decided to culture and grow some of the bacteria found in the classroom. The results were both fascinating and smelly.
