Science and Design

By December 16, 2024Middle School

Middle School students have been designing, conducting, and analyzing their own experiments using a framework that aligns with our IB science requirements. They investigated cells (initially identifying unknown samples as plants or animals under the microscope) and explored osmosis in raisins and onion skins.

Students are looking forward to showcasing their skills and talents at this year’s Mercer Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF). The competition covers all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) aspects.

This voluntary opportunity is a great chance for students to develop strong inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking skills and engage with other young scientists and institutions in our community. It offers a platform to showcase the skills they have been developing across content areas such as public speaking, data analytics and presentation, and design.

The vast majority of the work can be completed at school and the students will have guidance from Mrs. Dutt and access to the Infinity room during Independent work to carry out their investigations.
