Primary through Middle School children gathered together to celebrate our second School Spirit Day of the year. School Spirit Days are joyous celebrations which spiral our awareness from self to our community, to our school, and ultimately connect us to the wondrous earth which we all inhabit. It was an informative assembly on this year’s theme, The Four Elements : Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. With the focus on Earth, we explored soil, rock, dust, clay, and the carbon cycle through slideshows, dance, music, and murals. This fall the Lower and Upper Elementary students have covered these topics and had much to share. Making connections between our composting project, the health of the soil in our vegetable garden, climate change, and the carbon cycle, our community came to appreciate efforts being made at Princeton Montessori to address global warming. Mrs. Hammer shared a slideshow of the children preparing and working in the garden here at school.

In preparation for the School Spirit Day, the Upper Elementary children made enough seed balls to share with the rest of the school. This is a planting practice known around the world, to promote the growth of native plants by making balls out of clay, potting soil and wild flowers seeds. Each class will cast the seed balls, during the next few weeks , and the wild flowers will bloom and bring color to our school grounds in the spring.
