The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970. The idea was to raise awareness about our role in protecting our natural world and to educate and inspire people to protect the environment. Students at all levels can make a difference in helping our earth.
Dr. Montessori had a deep respect and reverence for nature and believed that we should use nature to inspire children. She encouraged Montessori teachers to take the children outside whenever possible. At PMonts, our students spend a lot of time outside, not only on Earth Day but every day!
Toddlers planted seeds, learned about the parts of a flower, and enjoyed exploring the great outdoors!Lower Elementary students planted flower seeds in their garden. Primary students planted seeds and learned about recycling. In honor of Earth Day, Middle School students made art inspired by the Scottish artist Andy Goldsworthy. They learned how he constructs beautiful works of art using only found objects in nature. They went outside and created their own land art using natural materials. If you would like to learn more about the art of Andy Goldsworthy, click here. Middle School students also built a dam.
