A message from 8th grader, Nicky Cardona
Hello Princeton Montessori School,
I’m Nicky Cardona, an 8th grader at Princeton Montessori School, reaching out for support with my community project. A Community Project is an 8th grade project to help solve a problem within your community. For my Community Project, I would like to provide school supplies to an underprivileged school in Punjab, India.
To provide some background, at the beginning of October, I had the privilege of visiting India, and during my visit, I toured a local school that I grew up hearing stories about from my mom, a school my mom attended from 1st – 7th grade. While touring the school I was reminded of my privileges and good fortune, and also the lack of basic necessities available to kids in these schools.
The school I visited, attended mostly by children from families with limited resources, relies on government support for uniforms, food, and desks. However, essential personal items like notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, calculators, markers, and crayons are not easily accessible to parents, significantly impacting the education quality for the kids. Months can pass without these supplies. This led to my community project: organizing a school supplies drive. Details of the drive are below.
-
Drive: Jan 12 – Feb 1
-
Needed Supplies: Notebooks, Pencils, Erasers, Markers, Pens, Calculators, English Alphabet Books, and other English learning materials.
-
Donations: Drop-off at the Front Desk bin or ship via Amazon to 11 Patriot Drive, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
I will be visiting India in February and plan to deliver these supplies personally.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity,
Nicky
