Eighth Grade Spotlight

By March 11, 2024Alumni

Weekly feature spotlighting each of our Eighth graders which asks them to reflect on their Middle School experiences and share some of the highlights and what they are most proud of.

Meet Adhya Abi

What is one of your favorite highlights from the middle school program?

My favorite part of the middle school program is the amount of opportunities and freedom that we get as students. Our middle school has a strong focus on cultivating our sense of responsibility and making us all-rounders. Because of these reinforced learnings, we get to explore so many things, from the trip to Spain last year, to the upcoming MMUN (Montessori Model United Nations) conferences. Through these, we get to learn so much more and experience new things which I never would have been able to do before, which is why it is my favorite part of our middle school program.

What skill(s) did you develop thanks to your Montessori/IB education that are you most proud of?

Thanks to my Montessori and IB education, I have gotten more comfortable with being a risk-taker. Ever since I was young, I thought that I had to be the best at everything and that if I wasn’t I would have let myself down. Being part of the IB middle school program has taught me that it’s better to take a risk and mess up than to never try because I was scared. Since both the IB and Montessori programs have a strong emphasis on experiencing and trying new things, at first it felt awkward to be in an environment like the middle school program. Over time though, I was able to shed my shy exterior and embrace the opportunities that came with being part of this community. Something that really helped me develop my risk-taking skills was being part of the class rock band. Singing has always been something that I loved, but unfortunately, I have massive stage fright. In Rock Band, it takes a lot of work to make sure everything is synchronized and sometimes we only have one class to perfect a song before we have to perform the next week. By being part of Rock Band, I took a risk, and while I’m still not the greatest performer, this experience has definitely helped me.

What will you miss the most after you graduate from PMonts?

While I am looking forward to the new opportunities and experiences that high school will bring, I know that I will miss the tight-knit community and my friends the most. Since we are a small class, and we are always encouraged to work together, I have made so many friends. Throughout my time in middle school, I have formed close bonds with my classmates and teachers and we have shared countless memories and experiences together, from fun lunch table conversations to going on scary water park rides together. I have grown to rely on their support and the sense of community and belonging that we have all built together. I look forward to making the most out of the next few months I have with them, and can’t wait to see what opportunities lie ahead!
