Middle School Art

By December 9, 2021Art, Middle School

“If we try to think back to the dim and distant past… what is it that helps us reconstruct those times, and to picture the lives of those who lived in them? It is their art… It is thanks to the hand, the companion of the mind, that civilization has arisen.”

~ Maria Montessori

Self Awareness Art

Middle school artists completed their art focus unit regarding Self Awareness Art.  The objectives for this unit have been learning of ways artists express their identity through the visual arts. We focused on historical figures such as Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo and the roles symbolic imagery and expressionism play in these artists’ self-portrait paintings.
Individual art skill-building lessons provided the students with the tools for creating their own self-portraits. Each student wrote a statement to go with their self-portrait.
