NEW Lower Elementary Summer Camp Offering

By March 11, 2021April 1st, 2021Elementary

Summer offering for students aged 6-9!

This summer, we will offer a delightful summer program for Lower Elementary students (ages 6-9). Given the pandemic, parents do not want to introduce their child to an unproven environment this summer. Our school was one of the only organizations in the area to offer an in-person summer camp for very young children in 2020 and we had zero Covid cases. This school year, we’ve been open for 7 straight months of in-person, full-time learning for all students. We follow strict CDC virus mitigation strategies and we are eager to welcome both current and new families looking for a safe, proven, and engaging summer camp experience for their 6-9-year-old child.

Lower Elementary Summer Program Description

Montessori Mornings – The mornings will allow work and play choice, freedom of movement, indoor or outdoor learning and play environments, and all the other components of a Montessori program you’ve come to love.  Reading, read-aloud, and other choice curriculum works will complement summer-specific choices that this age group love.  Twice weekly, there will be guided literacy lessons by an educational specialist and families are also welcome to sign up for twice a week one-on-one reading tutoring, as needed.

Crafts, Nature, Specials Afternoons – In the afternoons, students will enjoy a rotation of structured group activities that involve crafts, nature, outdoors, art, music, cooking, water play, Spanish, and other specials we can make available to the students.  We will have some visitors, with pandemic safety standards met. Past visitors have included representatives from the local fire department in their fire truck and a petting zoo.

Intended Staffing
Jill Spiro – Lead Summer Teacher (Montessori trained)

Leading our Lower Elementary summer program will be experienced 6-9 Montessori teacher, Jill Spiro, who comes to us as a new employee from another Montessori school that closed due to the pandemic.  Jill brings over 18 years of experience teaching in a Montessori classroom to our PMonts faculty. Jill was previously employed as an Elementary teacher at Montessori Country Day School / Evergreen Montessori in West Windsor, NJ. Jill considers herself a very motivated and driven individual. Her goal as an educator is to create the spark of desire; a thirst for learning in each and every one of her students. She holds AMS credentials at both the Early Childhood and Elementary 1 levels.

Harmony Kingsley – Assistant Teacher (previous PMonts experience)
Harmony is an exuberant, talented person who has worked previously for PMonts in our Primary summer program and as a substitute teacher in the school.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary education. Harmony loves to sing, as her name implies, and also enjoys doing crafts with the children. She will join the program late morning and lead our lower elementary after-school hours program.
