Farm to School Program

By May 1, 2025Middle School

Elementary students visited Fairgrown Farm, our Farm to School partner. Fairgrown Farm is an 8-acre organic practice vegetable farm in Hopewell, NJ that grows seasonal produce for the community.

Our host, farm manager James Klett, is a PMonts alumni and was able to give both groups of students a wonderful experience in the warm sunshine.  James focused on reinforcing the key messages that Ecology teacher, Mr. Juleff, has been giving the students this year – “that we are interdependent with our one and only wonderful planet and that we can all make choices that help it.” For Fairgrown Farm, that means farming in tune with nature, growing food organically and respecting their responsibility to the wider environment. The students learned about how the farm plans its crops, cares for the soil, and supplies families with healthy, quality, organic vegetables and fruit through their Farm Share Program. They also planted vegetables and feed the chickens!  It was a fun and educational field-trip.

The Princeton Montessori Farm to School program gives the children a better understanding of where their food comes from, the impact of different types of farming, and how the choices they make affect our planet. We are lucky to have such good partners and encourage all in the Pmonts community to look at their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, allowing you to access fresh, organic produce.
