Get in the spirit of Giving

By November 22, 2016Uncategorized

Holiday Giving Drive

The Parent Association’s Community Service Committee invites you to participate in our annual Holiday Giving Drive, which benefits two organizations – Toys for Tots and the CYO of Mercer County.  The drive kicks off on Monday, November 28 and runs through Thursday, December 15th. In addition to helping our less fortunate neighbors, these activities are designed to teach our children about the needs of others and how their efforts can make a difference.

Toys for Tots Drive

We invite families of children in all programs, Infant through Middle School to donate an unwrapped gift to a child of the same age as your child. We encourage all families to participate and to consider donating educational gifts such as art supplies, board games and creative toys. The gifts will be collected in the Infant/Toddler and Main foyers and picked up by local Marines.

Garland is hung in the Infant/Toddler and Main foyers of the school to form The Giving Line. We invite you and your child to bring in a pair of mittens or a hat to hang on the line. The Parent Association will facilitate The Giving Line and deliver the hats and mittens to the CYO of Mercer County.

Classroom Holiday Celebrations

  • PRIMARY: We encourage families of Primary children to purchase a gift to donate to a child through Toys for Tots or contribute to the Giving Line.
  • ELEMENTARY: The teachers assign the children secret pals. Elementary students are asked to bring in a labeled and gift-wrapped paperback book to exchange with their secret pal.  You may choose to purchase two of the same paperback books and donate one to Toys for Tots or donate an unwrapped educational gift instead. (Book value for Lower Elementary should be between $5-$10 and for Upper Elementary between $10-$20).imgres
  • MIDDLE SCHOOL: The Middle School students will have a “white elephant” exchange.  Students will purchase (preferably with their own money) a $15 gift that anyone in middle school could use.  (We are stressing the ability to use the item rather than have it be a gag gift).  Gifts should be wrapped and brought in by Wed, Dec 14 and the gift exchange will take place on Friday, Dec 16.
