Nest Building

By March 5, 2019Uncategorized

The Primary students have been observing and following a pair of bald eagles who have laid two eggs in their nest at Duke Farms. They have been watching thEagle Cam, a webcam installed on a tree adjacent to a Bald Eagle nest to provide a live look at the daily lives of the eagles.

After watching how the eagles build their nests, and learning how this process can continue for years, the children built their own nest from materials they collected outside. The activity continues, as they are currently waiting for the mud layers to dry before filling the nest with softer materials. It is a hands-on, sensorial experience embedded into the acquisition of scientific knowledge.
