Princeton Montessori School offers care options for children on several days when school is closed. Additional Days are when the school is closed for faculty in-service, holidays, and parent-teacher conferences. These days are designed with a Montessori approach and offer fun opportunities and experiences that are unique and separate from the traditional school day.

During our most recent Additional Days the children created and performed an original play to the delight of the Primary children. The play was in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, which was on March 2. His birthday is now recognized as Read Across America Day, where children all over the country celebrate their love of reading and learning. The elementary students in the additional days program had fun honoring the beloved author, and worked together to write the script, and design the props and set.
After the show the Primary children shared a nest they built using materials they collected outside. The nest building was inspired by the Duke Farm Eagle Cam, a webcam installed on a tree adjacent to a Bald Eagle nest at Duke farms. The children are enjoying following a pair of bald eagles who have laid two eggs. Read the Nest Building post.

Imaginative play is an important part of the Montessori philosophy and having older students guide the younger children enables the teachers to stand aside and let the children create something of their own design.
