Celebrating Diwali

By November 18, 2021All Programs
Many classrooms had presentations about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere. The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Clay lamps, called diyas, are lit to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
Upper Elementary witnessed a presentation of the festival in the classroom. They learned about the cultural significance of the festival and popular traditions and fables associated with it. They painted diyas, earthen oil lamps, which are an integral part of Diwali celebration.
