2026 is the year of the Horse

Tuesday, February 17th, marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated worldwide and is the biggest holiday in many Asian countries.  Each year is associated with an animal as well as one of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.

2026 is the year of the Fire Horse. As part of the 60-year cycle, this year signifies intense passion, rapid progress, and independent energy. It is considered a time to take bold actions and make opportunities, rather than waiting for them. Programs recognized the Lunar New Year in age-appropriate ways.

Toddlers listened to stories and learned about traditional items associated with the celebration.

Primary children had special works and presentations. Many parents visited the classrooms to talk about the Lunar New Year and how they celebrate. Children did special crafts related to the holiday.
Lower Elementary students who celebrate the Lunar New Year gave a presentation to the class.
