In Literacy class, Upper Elementary students have been studying the myths and science surrounding squids through the lens of the book Giant Squid: Searching for a Sea Monster by Mary M Cerullo and Clyde. F. E. Roper. To conclude their unit, Mrs. Rove, Middle School science teacher, was invited to lead a demo dissection of a squid specimen. Students were able to interact with the squids, investigate the form and function of their body structures, and discuss the adaptations needed for them to survive in their habitats. Through this interdisciplinary and cross-program experience, students dove deep into hands-on, sensorial learning.
