Meet Dr. Amanda Rose
In an effort to provide the highest caliber exmissions support for our graduates, Princeton Montessori School has partnered with leading area educational consultant, Amanda Rose, PSY.D., to help PMONTS middle school students prepare for the dynamic and competitive independent high school admissions process. Dr. Rose is a highly sought after academic consultant in the Princeton area who also coaches students on college essays, SSAT/SAT/ACT preparation and interviewing and job search strategies.
What is your role at Princeton Montessori School?
I am the Secondary Placement Coordinator, responsible for managing all aspects of secondary school placement for the school, including the high school readiness process, high school application process, cultivating and sustaining positive relationships with independent high schools, and individual student and family support for secondary school placement.
What does your work with students/parents at PMONTS look like?
I support the middle school families as they begin the process of researching schools and then continue to support them throughout the application process. Support might come in the form of assisting with their school research, providing information on the SSAT and test preparation options, and helping students prepare for interviews. I counsel families through a personalized decision-making process to ensure that each student is applying to the appropriate schools.
What are your top tips for PMONTS middle school parents as they look ahead to the high school application process?
- Do your research on the schools
- Take advantage of the secondary placement support PMONTS offers
- Identify the school whose culture and programs will enable your child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
What is your advice to parents of younger PMONTS students as they look ahead to the middle school years?
My advice to parents is to trust that Princeton Montessori school students are more than ready to meet the challenges of high school. The Montessori educational experience is unlike any students are likely to encounter once they move on; savor it, for it yields independent thinkers, creative problem solvers, and students who know how to learn.
Is there anything a parent can do to set their child up for success after PMONTS?
I have worked with Montessori 8th graders for many years preparing them for the SSAT and then worked with them in 11th grade as they prepare for the SAT/ACT. I’ve seen how former Montessori students who went on to PDS, Hun, Lawrenceville, Pennington, Peddie, among others, meet the challenges of high school with success.
