We spotlight each of our Eighth graders and ask them to reflect on their Middle School experiences and share some of the highlights and what they are most proud of.
Meet Jia Mohan
What is one of your favorite highlights from the middle school program?
One of my favorite memories from my middle school experience is our Spanish immersion trip to Spain. While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of our class trips, the Spain trip surpassed them all. It challenged me to improve my Spanish skills, learn how to enjoy traveling, and explore the rich history of southern Spain. I loved talking to the locals, spending time with my host family, and bonding with my friends. Staying in another country with my classmates pushed me to become more independent and taught me how to make the most of new opportunities and experiences. I truly loved the Spain trip, and if I had the chance to go again, or on a similar adventure, I would do it in a heartbeat.
What skill(s) did you develop thanks to your Montessori/IB education that are you most proud of?
I have developed many important skills thanks to my Montessori and IB education. Two that I am most proud of from my years in middle school are being a risk-taker and being reflective. I’ve learned how to try new approaches in my work and explore new ideas to improve the quality of what I create. For example, in Design class, when we were assigned to create a board game, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and chose to design a virus-themed game. Without being open-minded and willing to take risks, I wouldn’t have been able to create something at that level of quality. I also strengthened my reflective skills by building the habit of proofreading my work and seeking peer feedback. This has helped me make improvements based on constructive input and turn in work that I feel proud of.
What will you miss the most after you graduate from PMonts?
When I graduate from Princeton Montessori, I will miss the tight-knit community I’ve developed here. I’ve been part of this school family for eight years, and leaving behind friends who feel more like siblings will be a difficult change. I’ve grown alongside my classmates, and moving on from a place and people I know so well will be both challenging and necessary, as I’m ready to explore my potential in high school. I’ll miss my teachers and friends, especially since none of them will be joining me at my new school, but I’m excited about the new adventures ahead. The community at Princeton Montessori has allowed me to form deep, genuine, and meaningful relationships, and I look forward to visiting as a high school student.
