Our First Month of School!
Written by: Ashwin Onteddu, Edited by: Mrs.Lobo
Our first month of school was very busy. We had the 5 Great Lessons: the Coming of the Universe, the Coming of Life, the Coming of Humans, the Story of Language, and the Story of Numbers. For the first time, the Elementary and Middle School teachers presented the lessons together to all upper school students. At the end of each Great Lesson, we created an art project led by Mrs.Stolzer. Those lessons set the foundation for all our Cosmic Education curricula.
In Physical Science, we are learning about how the first elements were created after the Big Bang or the beginning of the universe. In Biology, the 5th graders are learning about Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA, and the 4th and 3rd graders are having an introduction to cells. In History and Geography, the 5th graders made a timeline of the Earth, the 4th graders made a timeline of humans, and the 3rd graders made a timeline of their own lives.
During the month of September, we worked on a new project for the UE classroom. In Creative Writing, both Group A and Group B went through the entire process of creating a character. Group A made a character named Bob; and Group B made a character called Chuck the Chicken. We also illustrated and wrote a description of it.
In the month of September, we also had many school events to celebrate the beginning of the year: the ice cream social, the bagel breakfast, and picture day. The UE classroom also celebrated 3 birthdays: Allie’s, Anaira’s, and Durga’s birthdays.
Last but not least, we also had a parent come to the classroom and talk about their job. It was Jamie Reuland, Russell’s mom. She is a music professor and teaches music history. She shared some books and told us about her job. It was very interesting.
