School-Wide Food Drive
Now through November 4th
We are proud to announce that the first community service project of the 2020-21 year will be a school-wide food drive to support Mount Carmel Guild in providing Mercer County families in need with food for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Each year the Mount Carmel Guild provides 700-900 families throughout Mercer County with turkey and trimmings for their Thanksgiving dinner. This year will be especially challenging for the families in need and the Guild’s Thanksgiving program gives us a perfect opportunity to demonstrate our school’s spirit of caring. It also allows our students to learn about the needs of others and empowers them to make a difference in their own community. You may want to involve your children in choosing items for the Thanksgiving collection. To help them make the connection to this program, the Middle School students have recorded a reading of Maddi’s Fridge by Lois Brandt, a heartwarming book about helping families. Click here to view.
Community Service Co-chairs have found someone that will donate a 12-pound turkey for every 20 items collected (up to 12 Turkeys).
To help provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner package to each family, the Guild has a specific list of items they are seeking as contributions. (Please do not include breakable items like glass jars or bottles)
Canned goods:
- Cranberry sauce
- Turkey gravy
- Yams
- Corn
- Green beans
- Collard greens
- Fruit
- Pumpkin filling
- Evaporated milk
Packaged goods:
- Instant mashed potatoes
- Pie crust mix
- Macaroni & cheese
- Stuffing
- Tea
- Coffee
- Cocoa
Gift Cards:
- ShopRite or Stop & Shop
The deadline to receive all items at the school is Wednesday, November 4th.
In-person donation delivery: You may deliver items for donation in the morning or afternoons at drop-off/pick-up. There will be bins outside to place your items.
Delivery via Amazon: In order to social distance, you may want to choose to order your donation from Amazon, shipped directly to the school.
