Elementary After-School Activities

By April 1, 2026Elementary

Princeton Montessori School offers many choices of enriching after-school activities for Elementary students. Activities are designed to offer an engaging experience and provide opportunities for growth outside the classroom while keeping within the framework of Montessori philosophy. Students have started Session 3 and are really enjoying the new activities.

In Edible Experiments, elementary students explored the two key forces that help structures stand strong: compression and tension. They investigated why triangles are stronger than squares, and put their knowledge to the test by designing and building bridges using pretzel rods and icing. It was not an easy task! Next week, the students will experiment with a different adhesive to strengthen their bridges and dive into our next topic: tectonic plates.

In Animation Station, students are developing familiarity with digital design tools and software using digital 2D animation and illustration. They are developing skills in visual arts, creative writing, and critical thinking!

In Taekwon-Do, Students are practicing the art of Taekwon-Do in a supportive and structured environment, building confidence, discipline, balance, and coordination through the practice of basic stances, blocks, strikes, and kicks.  Respect, self-control, and perseverance are emphasized as core values.

In Chess, students enjoy a combination of chess lessons, tournaments, and fun! They learn tricks, strategies, and tactics to help them enjoy chess. In alignment with the Montessori philosophy of learning, the skills taught in chess clubs are also applicable in the classroom, on the sports field, and at home!

In Stop Motion Animation, students are learning the fundamentals of animation using found objects, paper cut outs, and clay sculptures.  They are writing short scripts, and using iPads to animate their stories, learning how to add sound, music, and special effects to their creations.

In Coach Meekin’s 3 on 3 Basketball, students are developing and enhancing skills on the court. Using drill repetition, players will practice dribbling, shooting, passing, and rebounding. They are also working on team sportsmanship and leadership opportunities, as rotating team members assist the coach and direct the team.

The seasonal art series, The Organic Artist, explores projects using nature as a source of supplies and inspiration. Students are enjoying activities that include creating paint from organic substances, crafting paintbrushes, and making simple stencils and rubbings.

Outdoor Soccer is a fun and active program where students are developing soccer skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through drills, games, and friendly competition, students build confidence, stay active, and learn to play honestly, fairly, and joyfully.
