Upper Elementary students are working on producing a weekly newsletter. Here is some news from the seventh edition:

School Spirit Day and the Head of School Surprise Day

In the past two weeks, we had two events: School Spirit Day and the Head of School Surprise Day.

School Spirit Day was about spreading kindness by preparing meals for T.A.S.K., a soup kitchen that gives food to people who need it or cannot afford it. Around one month ago, many people in the school started bringing donations. Last week, every student from the 1st year in Primary to 8th grade got involved in assembling bags of food. We all did this in our buddy bunches and the assembly lasted around 45 minutes.

For this year’s Head of School Surprise Day, the Trenton Circus Squad came and performed for about 30 minutes. They did many cool things like acrobatics, tricks with a diablo, spinning plates, jump-roping, standing on a big ball, juggling on a big ball, unicycling, juggling, juggling while unicycling, jump-roping on unicycles, and pretty much everything you can do on unicycles. Afterwards, the Upper Elementary students got to try some of the tricks they did, and in the photos you can see us trying the different tricks.

We also had three birthdays: Ashwin’s, Russell’s and Minha’s birthdays. This year, Russell is looking forward to summer break. He had an ice cream cake. His favorite present was a Swiss Army Knife. Ashwin is looking forward to the last Grace and Courtesy Luncheon in UE. Ashwin also had a birthday party. Ashwin did not have a cake, but he had a birthday slushie. His favorite gift was a Lego set of a Ferrari. Minha is looking forward to Camp Bernie and the end of the year, because she is excited to become a fifth grader. She had an ice cream cake for her birthday, and after Ramadan, she will have a birthday party. Her favorite gift was a journal that her family friends gave to her.

Russell and Minha also presented their public speaking project. Russell talked about three significant figures from the Second World War, and Minha talked about the company Tesla and its founder.

Last week, new cultural cycles started: 3rd grade has Biology, 4th grade has History and 5th grade has Physical Science. In Physical Science, 5th grade is learning about magnetism and magnetic forces. In History, 4th graders are working on a timeline of their lives. And in Biology, 3rd grade is now reviewing the needs of plants, animals, and fungi. They will be exploring outside to see what they can find.

In our research report about the countries of Europe, we are starting to organize the fact note cards we wrote. We arrange our cards by topics and tape them together, making a scroll. They will be used to help us write our report draft.

We hope you enjoyed this newsletter about our last two weeks!
