Virtual Music Lessons
Princeton Montessori School is offering virtual music lessons this year. Violin and piano lessons are offered to students in Primary through Middle School. Guitar, bass, ukulele, viola, cello, flute, drums, and trumpet lessons are offered to students in Upper Elementary and Middle School. Weekly lessons are either 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length.

“Our girls (Lower Elementary and Primary) both started learning Piano and Ukelele virtually this year. The Zoom lessons have been wonderful and totally seamless! Ms. Miller and Mr. Mitnick have gone above and beyond with their enthusiasm and encouragement to keep the children engaged, which has made remote-learning a completely new instrument such a joy.”

We recently checked in with the instructors to see how things are going.
Sue Ellen Miller feels that it is important for her students to have consistent instruction and guidance. She makes additional videos to help support those who may need extra practice on certain issues. Ms. Miller was excited to reported that Stella recently began flute lessons over Zoom! She is doing very well and progressing nicely with the supporting videos. Her younger sister has also started lessons on piano.

Alex Mitnick has found the transition to be fairly seamless. In fact, in some ways he finds the virtual teaching experience to be better than in-person teaching as he can easily share new music, songs, video examples, and assignments. Mr. Mitnick reports his virtual students look forward to their lessons and are progressing nicely. For the first time ever, he even has a 5-year-old ukulele student!

Toyoko Kitade says her students have adapted well to virtual lessons. She is quite impressed that several students have become more focused and resourceful at doing their own tuning and fingering on the violin. Previously, they would rely on her help for this. She has found that virtual lessons at home have helped many students with their concentration and their excitement to play their instrument!
