INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

By September 25, 2025September 26th, 2025Primary
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21st. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
The United Nations’ theme for this year’s Peace Day is “Actions for Peace”.  In recognition of this, and as a way to strengthen the ideals of peace for our students, the Primary program created the Primary Peace Project.
Beginning on Monday, September 22nd, the Primary children will be given one assignment for the next thirty days that inspires the students to find peace within themselves and extend it to those around them.  This goal is at the core of our Montessori pedagogy.  Dr. Montessori saw children as peacemakers and believed that children hold the potential to create a peaceful world.  We hope you will follow our students’ journey in contributing to Dr. Montessori’s advocacy for peace!
Lower Elementary students shared their thoughts on what peace means to them. Here are some of their responses…
To be respectful • To be kind • To be helpful • To listen when someone is talking • To walk slower • No running • No fighting • Peace is love
Even Toddlers participated in International Peace Day with an art project.
Peace education was a cornerstone of Maria Montessori’s vision, and she knew that direct, respectful communication is the way we move toward peace.  Indeed, problem-solving is the foundation of a child’s learning.  We do this by modeling, practicing, and reflecting on how we interact with others.
