Lunar New Year Celebrations

2025 is the year of the Snake  

Wednesday, January 29th, marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated worldwide and is the biggest holiday in many Asian countries.  Each year is associated with an animal as well as one of five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. 2025 is the year of the Wood Snake. Programs recognized the Lunar New Year in age-appropriate ways.Toddlers listened to stories and learned about traditional items associated with the celebration.
Primary children had special works and presentations and parents visited the classroom to read stories about the New Year and do special crafts.
Lower Elementary students gave presentations about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated in many countries in East Asia.
These hands-on experiences provided an insightful exploration of the rich traditions associated with the Lunar New Year celebration.
