Great Job Upper Elementary!

By May 29, 2026Elementary

Character formation cannot be taught. It comes from experience and not from explanation. – Maria Montessori

The Upper Elementary students received certificates at the annual “Character Awards” ceremony. The 3rd-5th grade students studied character traits and virtues throughout the year in their weekly social and emotional growth class, “Gifts and Challenges.” They worked on attributes such as patience, courtesy, gratitude, perseverance, responsibility, honesty, and leadership. Each student chose a character trait to reflect on for the year and wrote an essay on the topic. The ceremony is a great chance for the students to reflect on their growth! After the ceremony, the students and their parents broke off into small groups, and each student read their essay. This was followed by the final Grace and Courtesy luncheon. Grace and courtesy are keystones of a Montessori education, embodied throughout the day in how we treat each other, from the early morning greetings to asking questions and getting through disagreements with compassion and confidence. Under the guidance of Ms. Pinciotti, our Events Coordinator, students are active participants in preparing, setting up, and cleaning up the luncheon. Fifth-grade students invited special guests, including the Guest of Honor, Infant teacher Mrs. Monteiro, Toddler teacher, Mrs. DiCondina, Primary Teacher, Mrs. Ewart, Piano teacher, Ms. Miller, Middle School teachers, Mr. McNair and Ms. Murphy, and Ms. Pfingst and Ms. Chohan from the administrative offices.
