A Princeton Montessori School education is grounded in the values of inclusion, peace education, and an appreciation for the diversity of our planet and population.
During the spring months, many classrooms recognized and learned about various religious holidays that members of our community celebrate.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims around the world fast during daylight hours, practice self-reflection, and give charity. The children in Primary have been learning about this observance and the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the month-long observance. Several parents also visited the classrooms and shared their families’ Ramadan and Eid traditions with the children! Toddlers also learned about Ramadan.
Two other spring holidays students learned about were Passover and Easter. Upper Elementary students gave presentations on both of these holidays, sharing with their classmates about their family traditions. Lower Elementary students had a fun egg hunt!
Passover is a Jewish celebration of freedom. Each spring, in Jewish homes all around the world, families and friends gather together on the first two nights of the 8-day holiday and celebrate with a special ritual meal called a seder. Ethan shared his Seder plate with the class and read a book about Passover. Theodore’s sister Juliette visited his class and shared her presentation on Passover.
Easter is the holiest day of the year for Christians. It celebrates their belief in the resurrection. It is celebrated with many traditions such as dying and hunting for eggs and the tale of the Easter bunny! Toddlers enjoyed spring work!
