Plein Air Painting

By April 28, 2026Art

As the weather warms up, we start looking for any excuse to take our everyday activities outside.

Primary After School students and Lower Elementary Art class students have been Plein Air painting (painting outdoors).  The Primary students created self-portraits under natural lighting.

Lower Elementary students painted cherry tree blossoms outside.

Taking some time to slow things down and get outside is imperative for everyone. It is nice to have some downtime in nature to be thoughtful, observant, and creative! Plein air painting combines the benefits of nature and art. It lets the students be still in nature, but also gives them something to do that engages their minds and stimulates their senses.

To confer the gift of drawing, we must create an eye that sees, a hand that obeys, a soul that feels; and in this task, the whole life must cooperate. ” Maria Montessori
