We are spotlighting each of our Eighth graders and asking them to reflect on their Middle School experiences and share some of the highlights and what they are most proud of.
Meet Henry Scriven
What is one of your favorite highlights from your time in Middle School
My definite favorite highlight of middle school was the trip to Spain. It wasn’t just a break from classes; it was an immersive experience that combined relaxing on the Mediterranean coast, deep dives into history, and creating lasting bonds with my friends. Enjoying the beach was definitely a top moment, but it was more than just sand and water. I loved the energy of the bustling coastal towns and sampling local foods like paellas and fish while looking out at the crystal-clear water.
What skill(s) did you develop thanks to your Montessori/IB education that you are most proud of?
In IB education, I am most proud of developing the skill to be creative and becoming an innovative thinker. This transformative process was deeply nurtured by the IB Learner Profile, which encouraged me to approach complex, real-world problems with both curiosity and critical reasoning. I learned to step outside my comfort zone and apply creative solutions to physical community needs.
What advice would you give to someone about to enter Middle School at PMonts?
It is very important not to stress out and to actually enjoy your sixth-grade year. You should use this time because the amount of work is generally light, making it a great transitional year. Instead of worrying, focus on making friends and exploring new interests. Setting high, intense pressure now is unnecessary when you can achieve success through a balanced approach. Enjoy the freedom of this year, as it is a special period before academic demands increase.
