Upper Elementary students are working on producing a weekly newsletter. Here is some news from the 12th edition:
Last Week in the UE Classroom
Written by Adara Dutt and Ariya Mehta
Last week, on Monday, after the morning meeting, we had Tune-in in the Crescendo Room with yoga mats. We did different yoga poses such as the child pose, the tabletop pose, and many others. We stretched and had some time to be silent, relax, and get ready for the rest of the week. Most people liked Tune-in in the Crescendo room more than in the classroom, because it is a bigger space, we use yoga mats, and the experience is more peaceful.
Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and the parents were very kind and thankful to the teachers for teaching their kids. Many people made cards or brought in gifts for them. Last week was all about saying thank you to the teachers. On Wednesday, we had buddy bunches. We all wrote positive character traits about the teachers on pieces of paper with their picture. We all enjoyed writing nice things about the teachers.
On May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), a group of 5 students made salsa with Mr. Shangold to celebrate his Mexican holiday. The salsa had tomatoes, onion, salt, and pepper. It was simple but delicious. UE was going to make guacamole on Cinco de Mayo, but the avocados were not ripe, so we made it on Thursday. The guacamole was made with avocados, lemon, salt, pepper, and cilantro. Many students liked the guacamole and the salsa, but some people said the guacamole was too sour. Most students liked the salsa, except the ones who didn’t like tomatoes.
On Thursday, Arya’s dad presented on his job. He is a computer engineer. He talked about his achievements, like finding hackers. All the students were fascinated and asked lots of questions. He gave us some advice on how to stay safe online.
We celebrated Anishka’s birthday with her “life in a bag” on Friday. She brought in three pictures, her fondue pot and her sketch book. Anishka’s favorite item was her fondue pot, which her cousins gave her for her 9th birthday.
During last week, for our cultural lessons, the Third Graders were studying the formation of mountains and how different rocks are formed. They will continue to study rocks. Fourth Grade is researching the timeline of life and the different eras and periods. Fifth Grade was studying the Lenape people, and they created a book with some of their recipes. They made and enjoyed some of those recipes with Mrs. Kiff.
