A Special Visitor

By December 28, 2023Middle School

Professor Sabine Petry from Princeton University recently visited the Middle School to talk about her research in molecular architecture and the function of the microtubule cytoskeleton.

She discussed the limit of the light microscopes available to the students in our science classroom and described the use of advanced light microscopy and X-ray crystallography in her research. She introduced the students to the concept of model organisms, inviting us to observe samples of the nematode worm with our naked eye and later under the microscope. She painted a picture of what it means to be a scientist and researcher and shared mesmerizing animation of her laboratory’s discoveries. It was an inspiring end to our unit on Photosynthesis and experimentation methods.
